The Australian Community Development Program (ACDP) actively participated in a Career Expo held at AIIC (Australian International Islamic College), Queensland’s largest Islamic school on Friday 2 June 2023.
This event witnessed the joint presence of notable institutions such as the University of Queensland (UQ), Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Queensland Tertiary Admission Centre (QTAC), Technical and Further Education (TAFE), and Queensland Police Service (QPS).
The Career Expo attracted around 200 high school students ranging from Grade 10 to 12.
The event provided an exceptional opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations with students, gaining insights into their career aspirations and equipping them with knowledge about a diverse range of esteemed professions, particularly within the public services sector, tailored for high school students.
The impact was evident as the QPS stall experienced an influx of information requests and a heightened interest from our youth, notably from our female students, which pleasantly surprised the QPS representatives.
In terms of participation, ACDP boasted the largest number of members dedicated to assisting students among all the exhibiting organizations. We received heartfelt appreciation and recognition from the AIIC Principal, Deputy Principal, and the QPS for addressing a critical need and making a tangible difference. Specifically, the gathered information about the program and its delivery was highly praised and acknowledged.
A substantial number of students have enrolled with ACDP, displaying a strong eagerness to obtain additional information, guidance with job applications, and regular updates. We have keenly observed that this particular aspect of community support has been severely lacking, leaving individuals thirsty for any drop of information or assistance.
The overwhelming response and invitations received to conduct informational sessions in the forthcoming terms have further emphasised the pressing need for such initiatives.
The ACDP has established a direct channel of communication with the QPS to effectively coordinate and facilitate recruitment efforts within Masajid, community centres, schools, and other relevant locations.
In light of this development, we kindly urge committed community members and key stakeholders to come forward and actively participate in facilitating these initiatives.
Additionally, we encourage the organisation of informative sessions to highlight other valuable opportunities available to our youth.
We are well-equipped to provide guidance on the vast array of exceptional opportunities accessible to high school students, undergraduates, and skilled migrants who find themselves trapped in a monotonous odd job cycle.
Our services extend beyond simple assistance with job applications, encompassing comprehensive support ranging from crafting impactful cover letters to acing interviews.
Moreover, we act as mentors, offering valuable guidance and coaching to ambitious candidates seeking a substantial transformation in their professional and personal lives. Our philosophy revolves around imparting the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable success, preferring to teach individuals how to fish rather than merely providing them with a metaphorical catch.
For far too long, the community has been relegated to the sidelines, seen merely as protestors, consumers, and non-engaging recipients, rather than recognised as valuable contributors, and influential decision-makers.
It is time to initiate a transformative shift in this new decade InshaAllah.
Leveraging our nationwide presence and a team comprising accomplished professionals, entrepreneurs, and academics, we are uniquely positioned to address the significant gap within the community.
